Homer
Homer, Alaska is located on the Kenai Peninsula on Kachemak Bay, 225 miles (a 4-5 hour drive) south of Anchorage. This quaint fishing town of over 5,000 was named after a gold prospector, although gold mining was never lucrative here. Homer is known as “the cosmic hamlet by the sea” and “the halibut fishing capital of the world” and is supported by sport and commercial fishing, tourism and logging. Homer is accessed by road and air from Anchorage and is served by the Alaska Marine Highway.
