Valdez

Situated at the mouth of a fjord on northeast Prince William Sound, and surrounded by glaciers on the Chugach Mountains, Valdez, Alaska is the northernmost year-round ice-free port in the US. The town was destroyed by the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake, and was rebuilt near the original site.  Valdez is a freight and fishing port, and home to many heli-skiing operations.  Valdez is the end point of the Richardson Highway and is served by the Alaska Marine Highway.
